Siberian fir (Abies siberica) leader buds, April 18, 2010

   This P05 Siberian fir (Abies siberica) is showing signs of movement within the leader/terminal buds on April 18, 2010. This year's  green shoots within the transluscent bud can be clearly discerned.

   Compare the top image with the lower image of buds on an adjacent near-aged Balsam fir (Abies balsamea) that was also taken on April 18, 2010.

   Both images were taken within minutes of each other under damp weather conditions (occasional drizzle).

   Note: Both images have a resolution of 12 megs.
